Knecht Ruprecht – Team Santa | Holy Night

Knecht Ruprecht, one of the most mysterious figures of German Christmas folklore, joins Team Santa in Holy Night: Jesus Christ vs Santa Claus, bringing a stern and unsettling presence to this extraordinary festive confrontation.

Traditionally known as a companion of Saint Nicholas, Knecht Ruprecht visits households during the Christmas season, rewarding well-behaved children in some versions of the legend while threatening those who have misbehaved with punishment. His appearance and customs vary across regional traditions, but he remains closely associated with the more severe and shadowy side of Christmas.

This miniature portrays Knecht Ruprecht as a grim, hooded wanderer dressed in long, weathered robes and a ragged cloak. His stern face emerges from the shadows of his hood, giving him an intimidating expression that perfectly captures the character's legendary role.

In one hand he carries a bundle of wooden switches, traditionally associated with the punishment of naughty children, while the other grips a heavy sack. Ropes, pouches and small accessories hang from his belt, adding texture and detail to his austere appearance. His still, imposing stance suggests a figure who needs no elaborate weapons to inspire fear.

With its carefully sculpted clothing, distinctive silhouette and strong roots in Germanic Christmas traditions, Knecht Ruprecht adds a darker, more traditional dimension to Team Santa. A character that brings folklore, mystery and a touch of menace to the Holy Night collection.
