Straight from the darkest traditions of Icelandic Christmas folklore, Gryla joins Team Santa in Holy Night: Jesus Christ vs Santa Claus, bringing an unsettling presence to this extraordinary festive confrontation.
According to legend, Gryla is a terrifying giantess who descends from the mountains during Christmas to capture misbehaving children, carrying them away in her enormous sack. This miniature reimagines the legendary creature as a formidable fantasy character, combining her traditional appearance with the sinister atmosphere of the Holy Night collection.
Her wild, flowing hair frames a menacing face, while her imposing figure is covered in ragged clothing, ropes, bones and primitive ornaments. A massive sack hangs from her shoulder, and a crooked wooden staff supports her journey. Her oversized feet, rough textures and numerous sculpted details reinforce her monstrous appearance.
Gryla is a striking addition to Team Santa, bringing one of the most fascinating and frightening figures of European Christmas folklore to the tabletop. Her distinctive silhouette and richly textured sculpt make her an especially interesting miniature for collectors and painters who enjoy dark fantasy and traditional legends.
