Black Peter – Team Santa | Holy Night

Black Peter, inspired by the traditional figure of Zwarte Piet from Dutch and Belgian Saint Nicholas celebrations, joins Team Santa in Holy Night: Jesus Christ vs Santa Claus, bringing a colourful and mischievous presence to this extraordinary Christmas confrontation.

Traditionally portrayed as a companion and helper of Saint Nicholas, Zwarte Piet is associated with the distribution of sweets and presents during the festive season. The character has evolved over time and remains a subject of cultural debate, but his historical connection to the Saint Nicholas tradition makes him a recognisable figure in European Christmas folklore.

This miniature depicts Black Peter as a cheerful traveller dressed in elaborate historical clothing. His feathered cap, richly decorated jacket, puffed sleeves, flowing cloak and tall boots give him the appearance of a festive messenger from another era.

Over his shoulder he carries an enormous sack overflowing with wrapped gifts and small packages. In one hand he holds a bundle of twigs, traditionally associated with the more disciplinary side of Saint Nicholas folklore, while an old-fashioned key hangs from his belt. His confident stride and smiling expression lend the sculpture a lively and playful personality.

The detailed fabrics, accessories and carefully sculpted gifts offer plenty of opportunities for miniature painting, while his distinctive appearance makes him an interesting addition to Team Santa. Black Peter brings another piece of European Christmas tradition to the diverse cast of characters in the Holy Night collection.
